Awakening
Monochrome, white on white, smothered under by an avanlanche of silence. Words stick and sink like snowflakes stitched together. Half-tone, shades of gray, As subtle as the gentle weathering of the rain upon a rock. Layers of leaves shuffle the wings of silence. Two-tone, gray on crimson, Breathing winds ripple and ruffle the frozen silence. Thawed from muted slumber by fragile slivers of whispered light.

really like this. is this done with vaseline or PP or what?
Kathryn: It was taken from a moving train in the relatively dark woods just as the sun was getting low and peeking through the trees-- using shutter priority 1/13s and then converted to B&W.
The lion the witch and the wardrobe came to mind, when I opened your post. Very impressive Kathryn.
Kathryn: You know now that you mention it, it does to me too, Tracy. Thanks!
You are the poet under the photographers, Kathryn- looking at your pic I could wish the winter were there although we are now enjoying the summertime! The photo reminds me of a painting of Caspar David Friedrich! I suppose you have used Vaseline (like two other artists I know), the feeling of "sink"ing "snowflakes" and "breathing winds" is beautifully depictured.
Some months later the Advent- time will begin, and then we can whisper your poetical words or the following one while looking at your pic: Rainer Maria Rilke Advent Es treibt der Wind im Winterwalde Die Flockenherde wie ein Hirt, Und manche Tanne ahnt, wie balde Sie fromm und lichterheilig wird. Und lauscht hinaus. Den weißen Wegen Streckt sie die Zweige hin bereit Und wehrt dem Wind und wächst entgegen Der einen Nacht der Herrlichkeit.
Kathryn: Philine...thank you so much. I am not sure about being the poet of photographers, but i do know that my photographs and poetry are married and they are what I think about and feel.
Have you ever felt stuck with words, Philine?
Blair witch project, came to mind...which I have never seen but I have a feeling there is a still from the film a bit like this. Anyway I think it has great atmosphere and a nice touch of menace Kathryn.
Kathryn: Oh yes Bill. A bit of Blair Witch for sure. Thanks. Kathryn with a touch of menace.
Hey, I like this!
Kathryn: Hey Dave, I like that comment!
Really like what you've done with this one.
Kathryn: Thanks kindly, Mroy. It was the forest that did it and the light. I was just a bystander with a camera.
I like this one. It has an erie, almost nightmarish feel to it.
Kathryn: Thanks, Travis. To me it is a little erie, but also soft and seductive.
Train journeys always good for an injection of serendipity. Works for me ;o)
Kathryn: Nice to know and I love a good ride to nowhere on a train.
Conveys the ambiguity of forests very well - there's invitation, mystery, but also the hint of a threat.
Kathryn: Thanks Ian. Life in it's self is inviting, mysterious, and a little scary too!
Ah mystic Kathryn continues her poetic beauty.
Kathryn: and poetic Chad reads and appreciates mystic Kathryn
The Life of Trees...
Kathryn: The Secret Life of Trees
Has a Lord of the rings feel to it...dark and mysterious. Lovely image.
Kathryn: Thanks kindly, Ada. I am not sure what a Lord of the Rings feel is, but i do like dark and mysterious.
Stunning! Is this a post-processing effect? How do you do this??? (If you don't mind my asking)
Kathryn: Marcie, no it is the effect of a slow shutterspeed, movement, and the interplay of shadow and light. I was on a moving train in a dark forest where slivers of came through the trees. The only post processing was B&W conversion and a crop.
Nice to know you find it as stunning as I do.
Interesting technique, I wonder where I can get hold of a train to drive through the woods.
Excellent result - a forest filled with white shadows.
Kathryn: Maybe Germany will loan you this DampfZug, Louis. You can find it on the Brocken Mountain.
Yes, a forest filled with all sorts of surprises!
Love this, Kathryn. Great movement and lovely tones. It makes me wonder what is rushing through this forest. (:o)
I like this sort of blur, I can see a fairy in the bottom right hand side of the pic
very cool. mal
How beautiful, Kathryn. You are quite an artist!
