Yes, i finally made it to the comments, after i've been checking on your pics now for a while
And again you captured a great night setting, the tree and the mast make an uneven but fitting couple. The glowing looks more menacing than yesterday's... are you sure there isn't a grue hiding in the shadows ahead?
Kathryn: Glad you are back, Thomas!
I took this one the same night as yesterday's, but pointed my camera in the opposite direction away from the city lights. It is kind of funny because until I saw the photograph on my computer, I was absolutely sure that the pair were trees. It was so very very dark and the light you see is from the moon and a 10 second shutterspeed. All I could see in the distance was something rising up off the fields and made the assumption ...trees. One never knows what is hiding ahead in the shadows. That is what makes life interesting, isn't it?
I love it. Less is more.
Kathryn: Funny you'd say that because I've been looking at photographs this morning and wondering why so often we (or maybe I should say I), feel the need to put more...more blurs, more layers, more sharpening, more whatever.
Your comment is profound. Thank you that.
This is a great shot! It is the inverse of the 'lone tree on a snow covered slope' shot. Excellent work!
Kathryn: Martin, I took this the same night I took yesterdays. Have not had the opportunity to impliment your suggestions although I did give it a try, but the weather last night was just too uncooperative. Perhaps tonight...
Brilliant minimalist panorama, Kathryn.
Gotta love the unlikely couple...got no money for their date, so they are just sitting close and watching the distant horizon; perhaps dreaming of going one day soon to see what is at the end of the world.
Kathryn: Thank you, Ray. Another night shot taken on the same night as yesterdays.
There is something to be said about sitting close and dreaming
Great capture Kathryn, what a space, beautiful!! Have a nice weekend
Kathryn: The farmer's fields are a bit barren at the moment which allowed me the space. You have a lovely weekend too. Enjoy your visit with Ginnie!
This is wonderful for the imagination, Kathryn! That's what I love about photography...especially yours.
Kathryn: Thank you, Ginnie. I wonder what it makes you imagine?
Just simply beautiful.
Kathryn: Then simply thank you, Aussie.
Wow. Another great capture Kathryn. Nice tonal variation on this one..
Kathryn: Thanks much, Richa. I am still working with night photography. so let's see how this evolves!
I can imagine this in a huge space frame against a white wall in a modern type lounge.
It is also one of those pictures that I could play around with different crops, even if only to satisfy my curiosity. Brilliant minimalist panorama is an apt description.
Kathryn: Thanks so much Louis. What type of cropping were you thinking?
Very minimalist shot, but I like the composition with this poor lonesome tree being dominated by this huge metallic pole
Kathryn: Thanks for the comment. I am glad you like it. The poor lonesome tree maybe happy to have that huge metallic pole as a companion
great minimalism. i love the tones as well. I agree with Louis that if you are experimenting at home it would be interesting to see how the different crops would work.
Kathryn: Thank you so much for your comment. I am very interested in how you would crop this. I looked at it and struggled with the crop and still when I look at it, it seems that there is something I could have done differently, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Color me curious.
this is a lovely work of art. renews my idea of photo synthesis.
Kathryn: clever, terry, very clever... and thank you for your "art" comment.
This is truly wonderful. I love that darkness and the two items in the photograph. It is beautiful and simple and meditative.
Kathryn: Pleased you like it. A new type of photography for me...
so peaceful
Love the atmosphere in this shot. Leaves a lot to the imagination. Nice shot Kathryn.
Like it even if it is a bit too dark for me
Nice grey and black effet with a little piece of light !!!
wow, super photo Kathryn, your eye for a shot beggars believe.
Isn't it interesting how even the faintest glimmer of light can render a subject with shape and mood. It's a good photograph Kathryn - but an even stronger idea that needs more work imo.
May I suggest you turn your program mode off and set the ISO as low as possible and use a longer exposure time. This may help with the noise a little in advance of some specialist noise reduction software.
Kathryn: Mike, it is beyond interesting. I was amazed when I saw this image appear on my screen out of the darkness rendered from just that smidge of light. When we saw the image, I began to think about how our vision, as limited as it is, shapes our perception reality, and how very limiting that might be. Blah blah I babble on.
Yes you are right. It needs further work. I have been doing quite a bit of learning in the last few days. I had planned to go out tonight, but the rain is not cooperating. Thank you for the suggestions. Will give the longer exposure and lower ISO a try.
You know I think even less would be even more. I would crop the bottom half off leaving a narrow letterbox, then I think it would look superb as a big print on a white wall.
Another terrific shot, Kathryn. The lighting is perfect.
...the heart of steel
could not resist the velvet touch of tiny branch...
Kathryn: the fragile leaf
finds solice cupped in the steel hand
Less is definately more Kathryn
Without a doubt, an image that does not leave indifferent! Bravo!
This is very nice, and as Louis say you can try all different kinds of cropping...
Awsome: love the fade to black.
Kathryn: Dave, I am just itching to get out and do some more night shots. Where I live in northern Germany, there are many farmers fields with wide open spaces and then the mountains begin. Makes it interesting for messing around with light, lack of light, and space.
Kathryn I saw this and i'm in awe. This piece of art is... is.. (speechless). I love this terribly much. Inspirationally Excellent, thank you for sharing it.
Kathryn: Oh you are making me blush. Isn't it wonderful when you find something that goes right to your heart and you just are awestruck. Hard for me to imagine that any of my photographs can do that to others---but we all are touched in different ways and I am glad to know that mine touched you.
Love the darkness of this one and its sheer simplicity.
You mention cropping to Neal - if it needed it at all, what if you took a sliver off the left and bottom sides to make the point of focus - tree and pylon, more off centre than you have them here. It works beautifully as it stands though.
Kathryn: Thanks much. At some point, when I am feeling better and the rain stops, I'll get out and do more. I actually have not touched this since I posted it. Good suggestion on the cropping.
