Fantastic shot Kathryn - this works really well in b/w. So simple yet so effective. My only (very tiny) criticism is that I think the branch is a fraction too high in the frame - it perhaps would benefit from including a bit more space on top.

Kathryn: Thanks much, Ingrid. Point well made on the top. For SC I cropped it so that lovely line at the bottom would still be in the shot and the drops would be large enough to be as they are. I am still learning how to best size etc for SC. (any tips would be very appreciated!)

Great photo Kathryn - an interesting and creative use of macro. Like the mood but echo comments of AD, it needs a little bit more above the branch. Introduces a tension at variance with the serenity of the image.

Kathryn: Thanks Mike. As I told AD, I am still learning the ropes on how to size and work with images here in SC where things are a bit constrictive. I cropped tight so as not to miss the hint of the other branch at the bottom and to have the drops as big as possible. You know I am one to leave spaces in my photos though and I love a good crop job too! Mind explaining to me what you mean by "a tension at variance?" or should I start googling?

Kathryn: Sandeep, perhaps my daughter is sympathizing with my "mourning the loss of summer." While I am here in Germany, she is in Florida! Perspective is relative to the context...

I admire this for it's tight framing. It is balanced by the hint of reflection at the bottom edge and it works perfectly. We are too conventional with our compositions a lot of the time and it is your choice here that takes this out of the box and allows it to stand out.

Your daughter is a very perceptive young lady!

Kathryn: Pixelpixie, thank you so much. I do tend to crop pretty tight and I generally have one point of focus in my pictures...or a central point of focus. I could not sacrifice one iota of the hint at the bottom and at the same time wanted my drops to be as big and clear (although admittedly the one on the left lacks a smidge of the focus the others have). And also, I wanted simple and space so that the viewer would have time and space to feel the emotionality of those drops. Glad you like it and thanks for your thoughtful comment. I will tell my young lady (although she is 31!) that you said she is perceptive!
