On Southern Winds

I think I would have called this 'incognito' since the seagull appears to be running from you while hiding its face. I like the implied story and the clean composition!
Kathryn: Thanks so much, Martin. Nice to know you like it and the implied story.
He is looking out to the sea, trying to decide if he should take wing or stay and eat the cookies I am offering him. He stayed, free cookies are hard to resist.
very good Kathryn
Kathryn: Thanks so much, Chris!
Lovely shot. I like Martin's title.
Kathryn: Thank you M'roy.
Lovely shot Kathryn.
Kathryn: Thank you so much, Aussie. Nice to know you like it.
The gull's body is close in colour to the sand leaving it's tail feathers and wings bright. This, to me, gives the bird an almost abstract shape and feel. I like it a lot, Kathryn.
Kathryn: I agree about the abstract shape and feel, Mary. The only thing I did to this image was to increase the contrast a bit. I think that highlighted the colors and their effect on the birds wings and feathers. So nice to know you like it.
Very beautiful shot, Kathryn!
Kathryn: Thank you, Kay!
Very nice capture Kathryn
Kathryn: thank you so much, Richard.
Just delightful the way you have framed this bird, Kathryn
Kathryn: Nice to know you like it. For me, that is the strength of this photograph.
Kathryn, i interpret this as one that originates from between the lines - i like your view of southern winds. it would be nice to collect a series of photographic interpretations on the otherwise unseen.
Kathryn: Terry, most of my photographs express something personal and thus are "between the lines." Southern winds frequently allow me to take wing.
Incognito or mock modesty. Great picture of the southern winds.
Kathryn: Thank you, Louis. I suspect you've felt southern winds too from time to time.
...she's longing for the southern winds,
as if they'll bring her that relief she's waiting for. i hope they will i'll pray they will...
Kathryn: Touched by the breath
of a southern wind, Her tears spill into an Azure ocean and wash onto the shore. Sweet relief.
A beautifully captured shot Kathryn. The layers of sky, sea and sand are a wonderful backdrop to the shape of the bird.
Ingrid
Kathryn: Thank you so much, Ingrid. I agree on the layers, they lined up with the bird's shape and he almost becomes one with them.
Oh, wonderful, I would like to fly with sea-gull- far far away... carried by the southern winds- but then, please, to return again to my home...
Kathryn, you are interested in lyrics, you 'must' read the poem of Goethe,Suleika, Ach, um Deine feuchten Schwingen, West (sorry, not South), wie sehr ich Dich beneide..., set to music by Schubert, from the "West-Östlicher Diwan", but, sorry, I didn't find the English translation.
Kathryn: Philine, I'd like to be carried by the southern winds too.
I have found copy of Goethe's poem in German and will look for it or try to do an interpretation in English and then send it to you to look over, if you don't mind. I love it when you reference poems and music that you feel is connected to my photographs. Ich bedanke mich.
Oh this is a nice one! Great focus on the bird!
Kathryn: Thanks so much, Martie!
Do you know the land where the lemon trees blossom?
Among dark leaves the golden oranges glow. A gentle breeze from blue skies drifts. The myrtle is still, and the laurel stands high. Do you know it well? There, there would I go with you, my beloved.... (Goethe, Mignon, Kennst Du das Land, wo die Zitronen blühn...- a poem of the 'Sehnsucht'/the longing for warmth and light and a more light-hearted life and love...)
Philine thank you for the poem, I like to add, Kathryn, this is an outstanding picture, the colors, the wings of the seagull, yes I like to be flying with him to never never land for some time and just be there doing nothing and thinking of nothing, only for a few days....because I am just to full of life to do that for too long....I will be on Texel again next week, I will meet these fella's again....
Kathryn: Thanks much, Astrid. Take your camera and go down to the harbor on Texel. If you want to have a lovely experience on the sea, take out the Emily. It is not too expensive and 2-3 hours and so much fun. Take your camera because the gulls and seals are everywhere! This is one of their North American cousins who caught a southern wind.
very good capture, good timing, DOF is nice
Kathryn: Chantal, thanks much.
Wonderful capture great colours
Kathryn: thank so much.
Today I will fly on these wings, dear Kathryn. It was Mom's turn yesterday. Thank you.
Kathryn: My pleasure, Ginnie.
Impressively presented image, Kathryn.
Somehow the headless bird looks more to me like the polystyrene flying contraptions vendors sell at beaches near Bangkok for just a little bit of small change.
I almost feel I'm the bird...Wonderful shot. Regards, Laurence
Kathryn: There is something about southern winds that makes one feel they can fly.
superb capture Kathryn, well done
Kathryn: thanks much, Tim!
I like the visual simplicity and softness of the photo.
Kathryn: thanks, Jewlya!
I can't help it but I just feel I need to see his head.
Kathryn: Fair enough, Next time I will ask him to turn and smile!
The headless Gull - ok corny, I know ;o) Nice light on the wings.
Birds eye view!! What a great shot Kathryn
it's beautiful kathryn
would've loved to see more angles
Wooo, lovely. It's so much harder than it looks to get a picture like this, they move faster than you imagine.
What a light and peaceful image. Very nice.
What a great shot of a flying seagull... I can hear his wings through the air...
Floating away, nice one kathryn
I also like the birds white body being in line with the waves
Absolute stunning Kathryn. I've never managed to pull off a shot like this. Thank you for inspiring me to take another shot at it.
Stunning shot!
Lovely...well done.
