This looks impossibly clean and angelic for a shot of a seagull!
Kathryn: I suppose we all have our moments, Martin...even seagulls
Wow - how did you get this shot? Martin's right, this is impossibly clean and angelic!
Kathryn: I stole my grand daughter Zoey's teething cookies and paid the seagulls to pose for me with them
The perfect title, Kathryn. I think you've captured the air current too. Fabulous shot!!!
Kathryn: Thanks Mary---the day was so lovely with a soft breeze that the seagulls played on.
The perfect title, Kathryn. I think you've captured the air current too. Fabulous shot!!!
Wonderful detail...so crisp. I'll join the 'angel' chorus and chime in..definitely angelic.
Kathryn: Thanks much, Suzanne.
Terrific shot! A likey my friend!!!
Kathryn: Oh thank you. I am glad to know you like it that much!
"Most gulls don't bother to learn more than the simplest facts of flight - how to get from shore to food and back again. For most gulls, it
is not flying that matters, but eating. For this gull, though, it was not eating that mattered, but flight. More than anything else. Jonathan Livingston Seagull loved to fly". Yep. That's how it all started.
Kathryn: "Don't believe what your eyes are telling you. All they
show is limitation. Look with your understanding, find out what you already know, and you'll see the way to fly."
I immediately thought of Jonathan Livingston Seagull and then saw Viktor's comment. Great minds and all, of course.
I wonder how long it took you to get this perfect shot, Kathryn!
Kathryn: Not long, Ginnie. I used my grand-daughter, Zoey's, teething cookies to get the seagulls to pose for me.
perfectly captured Kathryn, love the backlighting on it highlighting the feathers too...
two things struck me when i saw this shot. the colour white and divinity. it led me to realize that both are so fragile. are they thus valuable?
lovely capture, Kathryn
Kathryn: So many things in life are fragile, Terry.
Excellent lighting and colour here. The slight softness is the only thing that prevents this one from going to my likeys
Kathryn: Thanks, Stan. Glad to know you like it--even if it is not perfect
Wow..Nice capture. And at 70 mm..it must have been pretty close too. Perfect timing on this one.
Kathryn: Pretty close...amazing what a cookie will do. Thanks.
super shot great capture
Kathryn: Thank. Glad you like it.
What an extraordinary photograph.
Most unlike a seagull - I know what they are really like. The quote from Jonathan Seagull is most apt. They are nasty scavengers that can be quite terrifying. Once you have been set up by gulls you realise just how scary Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" really is. I shall have to dig out my photos of gulls squabbling in a fish market to restore the balance ;o)
Kathryn: Thanks, Mike. Not yet with the squabbling gulls at the fish market. Let's let keep this illusion alive for a week or so and then back to reality, huh?
A seagull from heaven! This is quite extraordinary - it looks like he is doing a little private dance just for you. I love the way the light shines through his translucent feathers.
Ingrid
Kathryn: Ingrid, it was a private little dance just for me...and Zoey's teething cookies.
So near to perfection
Kathryn: Thanks, Pops. Any suggestions?
Going to my likeys. So excellent a catch.
Your title bugs me: 1) Are you showing the bird's suspension? 2) Did the bird get suspended from flying 3) Is it suspended in the air? Oh, it is #3 then - OK.
Kathryn: It is 3, Louis. Nice to know you like it that much!
Wow! Absolutely perfect! (:o)
Kathryn: Thanks, Roz.
Wow. Just a fabulous shot Kathryn! Great timing. Your title suits perfectly the image
Kathryn: Thank you, Richard. Nice to know you like it.
You have captured the elegance of the much-maligned seagull, Kathryn.
It is very common to expect they should display human social graces, even though we know it is a bird-eat-bird world out there.
Kathryn: I think seagulls have become much-magligned because we've intruded on their territory. And let's face it, retrieving french fries in parking lots at McDonald's is a heck of a lot easier than hunting and foraging. Perhaps they aren't so different from us after all
Thanks, Ray. They are elegant birds, aren't they?
Fantastic capture Kathryn, given to you from the heavens by the look of it.
Kathryn: Thanks, Tracy! Glad you like it.
Who was throwing crusts of bread up for the gulls?....amazing capture. richard
Kathryn: Teething biscuits I stole from my granddaughter who much preferred the bird show to the biscuits. Thanks much, R.
Wouaw !!! I love this !!! Nice job !!! it's amazing ...
Kathryn: Thank you Ann. Glad you like it.
70mm did it land on your head? super capture Kathryn
Kathryn: Nope, but it took a biscuits out of my hand! Thanks for the comment, Tim.
Fabulous, terrific, wow, fantastic, etc...
Kathryn: Thank you, Danke schön, Spasibo, Dank je wel, Muchas gracias, Merci beaucoups, etc...
Phenomenal Kathryn, this is some shot, I tried it too but never succeeded, bravo for this one!
I've seen a number of shots like this recently where the bird has been pasted onto a sky! Yours looks totally genuine Kathryn and is absolutely superb. Natural History photographers would be impressed!
Kathryn: Thanks so much, Bill. It is totally genuine!
Quality capture Kathryn.
Kathryn: Nice to know you like it, Chris. The gulls were at their finest.
Fabulous shot. The light and the clouds behind. It has something from heaven, don't know why. Really really nice. Glueckspilz mit so nem Bild!
Kathryn: Must be those soft fluffy clouds against the blue sky and the white winged creature that makes you think of heaven. Thanks much for your comment!
WoW! Great shot! H.
Kathryn: Thanks, I took many of them, but this one stood out.
looks like he's smiling righteously at you! ps - i noticed how can people tell which sex a gull is??? Great photograph...Rab
Kathryn: He is smiling--afterall I was offering him teething biscuits
Wow Fantastic
Kathryn: Thanks much, Aussie back on nights.
Holy Cow !! Great capture.
Kathryn: Holy SeaGull, Black Pearl
WOW! That's all I can say here. What a lovely bird.
Kathryn: Thanks much, Kay.
WELL DONE Karen. Congratulations for this wonderful image ! Nature is so beautiful. Many thanks for this image (I've missed it yesterday !)
Kathryn: Thanks for the comment. Glad you like it. Nature at its finest.

This image rekindles something from my strict-Catholic-upbringing past.
Nice image (nevertheless?). I am always admiring your images, even though I don't always comment...
Kathryn: Same goes for me admiring yours. I frequent your other site.
I understand your Catholic-upbringing. I have referred to myself as a "recovering Catholic." The image was not meant as a heavenly reference in anyway. It is just a photograph of a seagull taken on a particularly lovely day on the beach in Florida.
Now this is a crisp shot of an seagull.
Excellent details in this one
I actually held my breath when I saw this. What an amazing shot Kathryn.
Kathryn, I'm catching up again! Your recent shots are just excellent, you seem to be surpassing yourself. Likey!
Reminds me of the scene from the movie FaceOff.
This is so angelic. Amazing!!!
Wonderful shot!
Tremendous image, Kathryn. As I was saying to someone yesterday, birds seem to be the fashion lately. It was trees.
Simply spectacular!
like an angel. Superb shot and you know this one will make me very jealous!
Awesome! Everything is just perfect in this shot.
Now if only seagulls were like this all the time, I might actually start to like them
Kathryn: I think we've made beasts out of them with all the feeding and of course I am guilty too and tempted them with cookies to get this shot
Thanks for your comment!
Awesome shot, pin sharp, this one has the WOW! factor, very nice!
Like an angel or Jonathan?
