The Poetry of Sleep
Enclosed in a time and space where against an obscured horizon tiny waves of reality lap the shores of my dreams and silently whisper across the abyss

I love your work.....inspiring..
Kathryn: Thanks so much, Ado. I must ask though...to what are you inspired? *grin*
The waves of reality were so tiny,
and the shores of the dreams were so big that the ocean between them looked still like a mirror, on which whispers slid with no friction in silence for hours, defying the laws of physics and just plain common sense. Until the huge waves of sur-reality arrived, tore apart fragile sails of the whispers, and the nightmares were born in the depth of the void called by someone “abyss”.
Kathryn: Those tiny waves of reality
defying the laws of physics and just plain common sense can carry one to the ends of the Milky Way and suspend them there on a silent whisper
Ada said it INSPIRING!!!!
Kathryn: Awww thanks, Mroy. I am wondering what I have inspired you to..careful or your dreams many merge with reality too!
What a peaceful image...
Kathryn: Gina, do you know the Alison Krauss's and YoYo Ma's rendition of Steven Foster's "Slumber My Darling?" If i were to pick a song to go with this image, that would it.

Perfect
Kathryn: Thanks, Floog. Nice to know I am working on getting it right!
Technically and artistically great.
No poetry when I'm asleep...just snoring
Kathryn: No snoring when I'm asleep..just poetry
Delightful image, Kathryn...very dreamy. Again, super words.
Kathryn: Thank you so much, Chad. The entire experience has been nothing less than dreamy. The words, well the flow from the experience.
A perfect image of the innocence of a sleeping child - absolutely delightful.
Ingrid
Kathryn: My beautiful granddaughter Zoey, Ingrid.
The dream is absolutely delightful...a mixture of real and imagined that creep into my sleep.
enclosed within the world without
criss-crossed time across a myriad endless spaces reality is reborn as i drift into myself and forget
Kathryn: The worlds can't be seperate, terry and that is what makes the experiences so powerful.
It is the co-mingling of the real world (outside) and the dream world (inside) --that symbiotic relationship, that gives rise to a rebirth. The real world slips into my dreams and whispers its presences in my ear in a voice that is inaudible to others...a silent whisper. I hear it even across the dark abyss (or as VZ said....void).
Simple and effective Kathryn.
Kathryn: Thanks, Tracy. I am for simple, but sometimes my simple is simply complex
Simplicity at its best Kathryn. Lovely capture.
Kathryn: Bernie, I know you have watched that beautiful little girl of your sleeping and wondered what is going on in her mind too---slivers of reality peppers with flights of fantasy.
There is such a fine line between reality and dreams, Kathryn, isn't there, even IF it is an abyss! (sigh)
Would you look at those lashes!
Kathryn: Ginnie, so thin at times it is hard to tell where one begins and one ends.
Well the way your pictures tell a story about everyday life inspire me. Your words have depth to them. That's the kind of work I want to be involved with. Alot of Shutterchancers take pictures just to take them. For me it's not about the money..it's about the people and what they see when they see my work. Thank you Kathryn.
Kathryn: Ada, I think that people use photography and Shutter in many ways. I have evolved to using is as a form of artistic self-expression and so my words and my photographs are deeply personal--in essence, they are little pieces of me. Some times they resonate with others and some times not, but whatever, they are thoughts/concepts/ideas that, for me, are compelling. Some times the photograph brings my attention to the concept and some times the concept is there within me begging for me to explore it photographically and/or poetically. For me, it is about the process of dealing with a concept that sticks in my soul like a thorn. And I am fortunate to be at a place in my life where I when have that thorn in my soul, I can pick up my camera and begin the process of gently exploring it.
There are inspirations here on Shutter. Look deeply at some of the work of others and you'll find we all pour out little pieces of ourselves to some extent. Find your thorns and you will find your voice. If you are like me, you won't be able NOT to express yourself. Thank YOU, Ada.
Wonderful words- sleep is always sacred to me, I don't try to awake a person, never to awake a child and I like to watch sleeping persons- so blissful and lost in dreams and oblivious to the world! Your granddaughter has beautiful eyelashes (without any mascara)!
Kathryn: Philine, sleep is one of the most intimate acts we can share with others. We are absolutely vulnerable. For me one of the most trusting acts is to be allowed to watch someone sleep.
Oblivious to the world...but not apart from it. Our dreams are pepper with flecks of reality.
superb image and words Kathryn
Kathryn:
Show me some light pictures from early morning walks in the forest?
First class.
Whenever I look at our little girl sleeping I just turn to mush.
Kathryn: Thank you so much, Ian.
How old is your little girl?
WOW! Stunning in its perfect simplicity! Very powerful and poetic.
Kathryn: Marcie--thanks so much. Nice to know it got a wow from you and you found it to be both powerful and poetic.
Thank you Kathryn, I think I didn't express myself properly when I spoke about some photo bloggers...I just read my comment and it slapped me right across the face. I felt bad about it and I did not mean it in the way it came out...I was simply acknowledging their different and unique styles.I am quite embarrassed. Thank you so much for your advice and words.
Many thanks to your personal answers (to Ada, too!), as personal as your photo's.
"Our dreams are pepper with flecks of reality"- o what a wonderful expression! ( to learn a new/foreign language is like to get a new soul)
Kathryn: I love the versatility of the English language, Philine. I am still struggling with German, so I revert back to my Muttersprache frequently. My German soul is still in it's infancy
Simple, very effective, and very well executed. I like this!
Kathryn: Thanks, Martin.
How are things with you?
Very nice Kathryn, congratulations!
Great shot!Dream couple!Sweet Dreams !!!
Lovely image with perfect poetry, very nice! I feel sleepy now, hehe!
Hi Kathryn,
Our little girl is called Ella and she's twenty months old - a lively lass whose walking, talking and climbing. Thanks for asking. Ian
Precious is the word that comes to mind. Thank you for the view.
Superb job with this picture. It's not only perfect (as per light, sharpness, frame...)but it also shows the innocens of a child; irradiate calm and peace....
And by the way: beautiful eyelashes!!!!
or science of sleep.
so serene.
Three months after my son was born ,13 years ago, I was lucky enogh to have an accident and break my knee badly. That gave me the invaluable chance to have him sleeping on my chest in the sofa. It gave me such moments of peace and fulfillment.
Your photo made me think of those beatiful moments. Thanks Kathryn.
This is a lovely picture so very peaceful and innocent. The texture is so soft...I love the way you captured the baby's long eye lashes. Great job once again!
Your work is truly a wonder and joy to view! |
