Threadbare Souls
stitched together with a thread as fragile as silence

I've been trying to think of the film this doll reminds me of.
Child's Play. That is one creepy film!
Kathryn: Dolls like this always have a sort of evilness about them!
It's all in the eyes. Lots of interesting gazing going on here!
Kathryn: The poor clueless bear and the frustrated doll....hahhaha
Love those eyes.
Kathryn: Her eyes make her look kind of sneaky and secretly happy that she has done whatever she did to old Mr. Bear.
This is seriously creepy - the doll looks like she has just done something unspeakable to poor teddy - he has either expired or is just plain exhausted! I love the use of inanimate objects to portray human emotion.
Ingrid
Kathryn: Ingrid, hahahah the poor bear just could not take it any more. I think the doll has given him a run for his money.
well done
she sure does look alive
Kathryn: As compared to the bear, who has had a rough go of it!
She seems being caught having done or seen something dramatic!
Kathryn: No doubt, Richard, a little of both and that little smirk on her face makes her looks secretly pleased about it.
Dolls like that creep me out I'm afraid. :-( Well taken pic tho'
Kathryn: Me too, Dave. Makes me wonder why we give them to our little girls to play with.
My first impression: sweet memories of my childhood, some of these things which -once there was- implied a whole world, are still lying on a sofa, mostly neglected; I have to confess they have still a kind of soul filled with so many memories and a (my second impression: never lost but now a 'fragile'
Kathryn: Philine,
First to the meaning of threadbare--as an adjective we use it to mean...well-worn, old, thin, worn out, holey, moth-eaten, mangy, ragged, frayed, tattered, battered; decrepit, shabby, scruffy, unkempt; having seen better days, falling apart at the seams, falling to pieces, tatty, ratty, the worse for wear, raggedy, dog-eared. Now to your comment...relationships of whatever kind are so so fragile. I think old Papa Bear just could not take whatever his old buddy Ms. Dolly had in mind. And it looks like she is a little frustrated and cross-eyed too, perhaps she has taken off her glasses?
That bear doesnt look to happy with his doll friend
Kathryn: ha Nig, no doubt...although she certainly looks as if she has the upperhand!
emotion shot. the b&w works well. good work.
Kathryn: That is what old Papa Bear said...this is an emotion shot and works a little too well!
Thank you for your English lesson- o, what a wonderful rich differentiated language! O, now I'm understanding, you are referring to some old couples (I have observed 'so manche leergelaufene Ehe') who have nothing to tell und to talk with each other, having a gesture like dolls or puppets? -Nevertheless my first positive childhood-remembrances are predominant. As child you can give/you have given all things a kind of life and mentality- that is the difference!
Like a scene from a scary movie Kathryn, I like this!
Kathryn: Oh Chris the scene is even more scary than you could ever imagine. Old Papa Bear and Ms. Dolly are just too scary for words! Ms. Dolly is a formidable, especially when she has her glasses off. Just ask the poor overwhelmed Papa Bear!
makes you think just looking at it.is ted dead, what has she done.the whole shot has a story.great capture.
Kathryn: Aaron, you are right...poor old Ted looks dead, maybe he deserved it and Ms. Dolly was just giving him a taste of his own medicine?
Thanks for the comment!
Very creepy, horror-movie like shot!
Kathryn: Oh but Jewyla, she is JUST a doll
If this was my doll she would be living somewhere else. Very Creepy!!
Kathryn: Somewhere else like on an island?
~ twinkle twinkle eyelids bat
how he wonders what you’re at outta focus, outta air ted n’ barbs, ah what a pair ~
Kathryn: twinkle twinkle little bear,
how i wonder if you're there. while I charm with my smirk and stare, you look so pooped-out in your chair.
Great title. Old toys are so poignant. Perhaps it is because they are abandoned, no longer needed.
Kathryn: Poignant yes, but I could never abandon Papa Bear!
Wow, very scaring picture ! A great one indeed ! Bravo !
Kathryn: More scary than you could never imagine hahhahahah
i think these dolls are creepy Kathryn, looks like she just finished poor teddy off, great image
Kathryn: Finished him off? Tim whatever would make sweet little Ms.Dolly finish him off?
Bliss!
She had her way with me...but I know I got what I wanted from the encounter also! Win : Win! ....come again, Sweetie...same time tomorrow!
Kathryn: Ted, same time, same place, same price-- win-win!
Threadbare and the Threadbear. The Threadbear couple has a threadbare relation, bared to the thread of silence.
The composition here with the beautiful old doll and the teddy in a vertical line, doesn't work for me. I f you moved the bottom left doll and top right for the teddy, I believe it would have worked. Old Sigmund would have had a field day with all these adults being scared of a doll
Kathryn: Old Sigmund would have a field day with Papa Bear and Ms. Dolly for sure!
"Ho-hum, there she goes again!" Mr. Teddy knows exactly what she's like and keeps putting up with all her antics. Sometimes THAT'S what friends are for, Kathryn, and what makes them so threadbare in the end...as in REAL, like the Velveteen Rabbit!
Kathryn: He has no choice, Ginnie, because she is so charming.
Good DOF and B&W
This is a good nostalgic shot. I like how the bear seems to be staring into space daydreaming while the doll is obviously chattering away about something.
Kathryn: Ha Laura, are you implying that Ms. Dolly has bored Papa Bear to the point of no return? That could never happen!
The bear looks really ready for a nap and not to be disturbed...but the doll is into something naughty, great capture Kathryn.
Kathryn: Something very naughty, no doubt, Astrid. And you know what we say, never disturb the sleeping bear!
This photo tells so many stories... both nice and worrying...
Kathryn: Nice...like two friends putting up with each other's idiosyncrasies?
Worrying--like Papa Bear drifting off while Ms. Dolly tells him the most important thing he will ever hear in his life?
Very nice image and accompanying text. (FWIW, I don't see nostalgia or creepiness here.)
Kathryn: Not one touch of nostalgia? This image literally drips with it for me.
wonderful shot catherine. very emotive and a tad scary
