Winter Trees
"The wet dawn inks are doing their blue dissolve. On their blotter of fog the trees Seem a botanical drawing -- Memories growing, ring on ring, A series of weddings. Knowing neither abortions nor bitchery, Truer than women, They seed so effortlessly! Tasting the winds, that are footless, Waist-deep in history -- Full of wings, otherworldliness. In this, they are Ledas. O mother of leaves and sweetness Who are these pietās? The shadows of ringdoves chanting, but chasing nothing." --Sylvia Plath

Wooooow. Great shot.
Kathryn: Oooooww, Thanks so much
another LIKEY!!!
Kathryn: Nice to know you likey it, Patrick.
Radiant and mysterious. Very well done...
Kathryn: Thank you, Larry, yes I think mysterious is a good word. When I look at it, I wonder what is there, just out of our visual range.
...nice shot... great crop... top colors... ooops, no colors... good tones... did I forget something? oh yeah ...WOW... straight to my likeys...
That's all I can say. Who can compete with Sylvia Plath? Not me. Not me, my dear.
Kathryn: Viktor, oddly I dreamt this image a few weeks ago and it had settled down in the back of my mind. I described it in detail to M and told him how haunting it was. Then while on a drive on the countryside a couple of days ago, here just a short walk from my house on a road I've only been on a few times, it found me again. I took this image from the window of the car as we passed.
I wonder about the field's connection with me.
Kathryn, I am impressed by the beauty of this picture, for me you are THE master of this kinds of pictures and I agree with Viktor with the same words!!
Kathryn: Astrid, amazing the beauty we are served up on a daily basis, isn't it?
THE master? Oh Oh I am always careful about being up on pedestals. I have an extreme fear of heights Thanks for your very kind words. How was the trip to Texel? I wonder what it is like in the dead of winter.
This is my favorite of yours yet, Kathryn! And Viktor is so right: no one can compete with Syvia Plath!
Kathryn: Thanks, Ginnie. Glad to know you like it so much.
Sadly even Sylvia Plath could not compete with Sylvia Plath :-(
Excellent K'. richard
Kathryn: Thanks much, R.
Simply beautiful, Likey!
Kathryn: Wow I must be doing something right, Nig. Thanks much.
Just amzaing Kathryn
Kathryn: Thanks amazing Tracy!
Great work. I love the simplicity.
Kathryn: Thanks..some times keeping it simple is quite complex.
Nice choice of words to accompany this ephemeral image - blotter of fog is an exquisite phrase.
Kathryn: Couple that with the though of dawn inking the trees on that blotter of fog...wow she was amazing, wasn't she?
I must watch out that I don't run into Sylvia Plath - she sounds dangerous by some of the other comments
Excellent picture and you have another likey
Kathryn: Dangerous perhaps, but to herself far more than to anyone else. She is not so different from most of us, I think.
Glad you likey the image, Louis. I do too.
the composition is sparse, strong and unforgettable. The photo is so strong I wonder if it even needs the poetry. It is self sufficient.
Kathryn: Thank you much for your words--thoughts. I am generally very sparse on my words that accompany the posting of my images, but in this case--the photograph combined with both the haunting words and memory of Sylvia Plath, for me, make the image more than what it would be alone. They contextual and pushed me to move in my thinking beyond the obvious to more abstract ideas like connections between the trees in my images and "memories growing" tying their other worldliness to Greek gods or as blackdog noted, dawn inking trees on a blotter of fog.
I am pleased you find this image so strong and unforgettable. Thank you for taking the time to look, react, and leave your thoughts.
oh my Katharyn you have done it again, can't be faulted
Kathryn: Thanks, Tim. I've come to believe that most people here are so nice they don't fault things much anyway.
Very nice and delicate shot Kathryn. Well done
Kathryn: Thanks, Richard.
I know of Sylvia Plath, but had not read any of her work before this post, Kathryn...Clearly I have been missing out on something very good.
Your beautiful image works well with the Plath images. Is there a reason why you presented your image without foreground?
Kathryn: There is a foreground, Ray, It fades to black quite quickly though so it fades in with the page. I put a frame on the image and it just was not the same.
Nice to know you like it. Yes, read more Plath.
Today must be the day for naked trees! This is very atmospheric.
Kathryn: Tis the season, Martin!
Quite lovely, Kathryn. The emptiness of the composition really works well.
Kathryn: Thanks kindly, Jewlya.
Nice. A perfect winter shot.
Kathryn: Thanks, Richa. It is perfectly winter here.
I love this shot - there is something very satisfying about rows of trees and the mist gives it a very delicate, ethereal look. Amazing for being taken through a car window!
Ingrid
Kathryn: Thank to so much. Yup a car window at dusk. The dashboard was cropped out.
Utterly delightful, Kathryn. You have a marvellous and delicate touch with such subjects, and this would look fabulous hanging on a wall. (:o)
Kathryn: I think I might actually print this one just to see what it looks like, Roz. Thanks so much for your encouragement.
Poster material Kathryn
Kathryn: Thanks so much, Chris.
awestruck and then dumbstruck!
the subject matter, the composition, the tones, the inspiration, the whole craft (and caboodle) combined produces a work of art. and then...Sylvia Plath. 1+1 equals 10! thank you for this haunting, evocative (of something in the recesses of my mind, don't know what exactly) image, an image that's drawn with the imagination; photography just happens to be the tool handy for expression.
Kathryn: Dodge, it is my extreme pleasure to share with you as I surf your site quite frequently and draw such inspiration each visit. Nice to know I can reciprocate.
Your last words--"the tool handy for expression" have been my mantra throughout my professional career (which is related to the use of technology as a learning tool and cognitive processes associated). Nice to know I am in the process of practicing what I preach.
Right, this is going straight into my likeys. The sheer simplicity of this is wonderful. I want to see this as a huge print.
Oh I wish I had taken this!!!
Kathryn: Bill, glad you like it so much!
Minimalist and absolutely ethereal.
If this is the result a dream, maybe I ought to work on sleeping a bit more
Kathryn: Thanks, Ellie.
The sleep and dreaming--I have a very active sleep life with my dreaming. I've always said that I live an entire other life in my dreams. Have a couple glasses of good red wine and then turn on the news. The news generally bores me to sleep in a matter of 15 minutes. If you want to go to sleep in less than 5 minutes turn on the American news. The recent focus in the USA on Britney Spears is one of the best sleep aids I've ever found!
Wow, Beautiful Kathryn and Sylvia Plath suits it to a tee.
Stunning Kathryn
Stunning Kathryn

Powerfull!!! excellent photo to accompany the poem. I remember seeing her grave in Manchester( or close by)
Wonderful and lovely. For my a likey!
Keep 'm comin'!
Really good stuff Kat!
Kathryn: Thanks much, Nadine. I am trying, but at times I need a little break so I can regain my creative energy.
yep another likey. Very soft soft soft shot...quite literally seems to have a 3D effect on my eyes. Another fabulous shot Kathryn
